From the mouths of conservatives…

July 27, 2010

Well one, albeit a some what important one -British PM David Cameron…

‘Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp.’..[@].

You don’t say…my,my will “miracles” never cease .

Imagine  no longer can the reality be denied, not even by Conservatives ( Cnd PM Harper* regrettable not being one of em), i.e  the reality that is  Israel’s 60+ year-old occupation & it’s penchant for collective punishment and denying an entire People  the most basic of human rights.

Which begs the question, what would Israel  have done onto Palestinians  had it not been a  “democracy“  or had it not been “respectful/mindful” of the rule-of-law ?

I try not to be cynical, but hell sometimes its just impossible not to be. Does that make me anti-Semitic ?

—————————————————————————————————————————————-

* But then again is Harper really a Conservative ,or is he just a confused  ideologue ? There is a difference after all …being Conservative does not imply  stupidity nor an unwillingness to face reality or  objective facts. The venerable  George Grant (1918-1988) comes to mind, and who can forget the “old man” himself, John Diefenbaker (1895-1979).

From the pens of little men…

June 4, 2010

There are few things quite  as disingenuous & arrogant as those, who from afar , dismiss & downplay the brutal killing of unarmed civilians involved in, OMG, a humanitarian mission.

The audacity & the intellectual dishonesty involved in the twisting of facts for partisan reasons is just staggering .

Unfortunately this type of thinking is all to common particularly from the pro-Israeli camp.

Nothing Israel does , or has done can be criticized or condemned. Israel is always right, nothing  it does is ever beyond the pale.

Not so those who would dare criticize or resist the inhumane actions,in this case the collective punishment of an entire people by an occupying power. Not even the shooting down of  the unarmed & innocent. For them, not even violent death is too much.

If there is one piece of ancient wisdom that has never lost even a bit of its validity over the centuries, it is Cornelius Tacitus’ axiom that, “Crime, once exposed, has no refuge but in audacity.”…@

Terry Glavin opines on the Gaza flottila…

That is what this “anti-war” activism is about, and no amount of histrionics, excuse-making, yes-buttery or cunning public-relations work can wash the blood from their hands. Hideously self-aggrandizing revisionism cannot cover up what this spectacularly narcissistic act of moral exhibitionism was intended to conceal from the start.

This is about the continuing isolation and demonization of Israel, undermining the Palestinian Authority, and strengthening Hamas – which now enjoys the support of only 16 per cent of the people of Gaza, its stronghold…@

And on it goes where the insanity will stop, nobody knows…

UPDATE :

In the same vein from Lorne Gunter (National Post) we get the ubiquitous “what-if -analysis”. Rather than analyzing the actual facts of the actual event the Gunter’s of the world do their part to obfuscate & deflect attention by substituting an analysis of a fairy tale.

And on it goes & goes…

The Second Gaza War…

May 31, 2010

A war tells a people terrible truths about itself. That is why it is so difficult to listen.

We were determined to avoid an honest look at the first Gaza war. Now, in international waters and having opened fire on an international group of humanitarian aid workers and activists, we are fighting and losing the second. For Israel, in the end, this Second Gaza War could be far more costly and painful than the first….@

From Mondoweiss…

As for the fact that elite Israeli soldiers can in one instant be portrayed as invincible and yet the next as hapless victims — that is a paradox that can be resolved only in the minds of Israelis...@

From Andrew Sullivan…

It staggers me to read defenses of what the Israelis have done. They attacked a civilian flotilla in international waters breaking no law. When they met fierce if asymmetric resistance, they opened fire. And we are now being asked to regard the Israelis as the victims…@

Need more be said ?..damn don’t ya all just appreciate writing that gets to the motherf#*@ing  point !

Hyenas cackling over the spoils…(click on pic for the full affect)

A Palestinian woman whose house has been occupied by Jewish settlers argued with Israelis who came to celebrate Jerusalem Day in the mainly Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, Wednesday…@

According to Cnd author & journalist Terry Glavin this is just part of the process of … “normal urban development“…

I see no particular cunning either right wing or otherwise in the normal urban development of Jerusalem…@

Normal you say …

My,my is there no limit to the level that some will  not stoop  too, in order to justify their support for the  racist ,nationalistic and colonialist policies of the settler state of Israel ?

The Archipelago of Eastern Palestine

May 30, 2009

60 years of Israeli occupation and settlement construction(in violation of International law) has resulted in the total fragmentation of Palestinian lands. Indeed Israel’s appetite for Arab land will not be sated any time soon.

As Israeli greed gobbles up more and more land the chances of a two state solution,i.e an economically viable and contiguous Palestinian state alongside an Israeli state, becomes less and less likely if  at all even possible anymore.

The only humane, just and durable solution for this sixty-year old conflict is to re-create Palestine once more as one, integrated state, whose citizens irrespective of their religious or racial origin can enjoy equal rights before the law….@

Welcome to the Archipelago of Eastern Palestine

A land of broken communities, fragmented  bantustan’s  separated by roadblocks, internal passports,a total lack of free movement, military zones, segregated water supplies (80 percent of West Bank water flows directly to Israel),strips of Jewish only settlements connected by Jewish only roads.

Least we forget Gaza,a prison totally disconnected  & isolated from the West Bank & Jerusalem, where the people are not even allowed to rebuild their homes after Israel subjected the people to collective punishment in the form of wholesale slaughter and destruction.

Everyone just keeps “picking” on lil,ol Israel/Jews

January 14, 2009

Rather than sympathizing with Israeli’s/Jews there is widespread sympathy for Palestinians, how can this be ?

National Jewish organizations sounded alarm bells this week about what they consider hateful or discriminatory action carried out in Canada by those sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.[@]

Palestinians are “terrorist” after all ? Sure Israeli may have killed  a thousand+ mostly innocent civilians over the past 2 weeks. But they had no choice,as the “Palestinians/death cultists/terrorists” are bent on driving Israeli’s/Jews into the sea.

How dare people get angry and emotional, how dare they express their outrage ? Indeed there were two or three signs,in a sea of thousands, stating how Jews should be killed. No Israeli/Jew would ever express, such  evil thoughts. That said before anyone gets their panties in a bunch I am not excusing such behavior.

The inhumanity of it all, next thing ya know Jews will be rounded up &  imprisoned… “just for being Jewish“.  Will  Israeli’s & Jews ever be left in peace ? Particularly when Israeli’s & Jews just want to live in peace, hold hands ,and sing Kum By Ya ?

The fact that they are on occupied land, well that’s besides the point ? And this 40+ year reality, bizarrely, has no bearing on the situation ?

Red alert, red alert calling the “thought police” emotions have been expressed, words have been spoken, bad emotions & words at that.

Gee how “discriminatory & hateful” ,oop’s almost forget  “anti-Semitic”,of me.

And so it goes yawn…

Israel and Palestine;Illustrating the reality with Maps

January 6, 2009

As the saying goes,a picture is worth a thousand words.

Palestine  1887 (each dot = an Arab village)-Palestinian’s were by far the majority. There were no empty swaths of country side as many have claimed and continue to claim.Indeed Palestinians can show ownership of lands going back centuries.

palestinian-towns-village1

Palestine UN partition plan 1947 It should be noted that the U.N partition plan was unilaterally imposed on Palestinians by the European powers of the day .No Arab nation had a voice nor were any Palestinians involved in the deliberations leading up to the partition plan.None the less Palestinians were forced to   flee their lands(on map light green)by European Jewish  immigrants. Who in turn were fleeing Europe,  and  their fellow Europeans(Christians)  after suffering periodic  pogroms & discrimination throughout the centuries, ending with the  Holocaust of WW II.

Again Europeans committed these crimes not Arabs, sure as shit the local Palestinian population played no part. None the less it was they who paid the price, becoming  refugees. Again after being forcefully and violently evicted from their homes ,1947-1949,see Benny Morris. How “dare” Palestinians  object/resist…?

partitioned-palestine-1947

Palestine after 1967 The whittling away of remaining Palestinian lands(on map dark Grey) beings anew ,with the construction of hundreds of illegal settlements(violating numerous UN resolutions in the process). For a second time Palestinians are violently dispossessed through the use of terror attacks & expulsions, which continue to this very day . How “dare” Palestinians object/resist…?

palestine-after-1967

Palestine 2005,hemmed in on all sides humiliated on a daily basis and separated into even smaller areas by hundreds of road blocks(no free travel between areas separated by road blocks),security zones, walls,Jewish settlements, curfews etc etc…and with their remaining lands(on map orange) fast disappearing.  How dare Palestinians object/resist…?   maps used can be found here Those reader who reject my source feel free to check out the U of Texas’s Perry-Castaneda map collection here.
