I have always been some what skeptical of those that claim that the Middle-East, fueled by the ongoing intransigence of Israel & its dreams of “Greater Israel” ,will be the source and cause of war .
Not just any war, after all war in the Middle-East happens with such frequency that the words Middle-East & war seem to be synonymous at times. But a war of such magnitude and destructive consequence that it will affect the entire planet. Particularly if this war results in the realization of Juan Cole’s – and many others – deepest fears …
… that US support for Israeli militarism, and the terrorism that support inevitably engenders, will be what finally finishes off the civil liberties enshrined in the American Constitution.
Put that way ,and given the recent & very real suppression’s of civil-rights in the U.S,Israel and else where, along with the barbaric practices of torture, rendition & secret prisons etc…all in the name of fighting “the war on terror” . These claims begin to look more & more plausible.
On top of it all Israel has hundreds of nuclear weapons. Here to many believe (and not without good cause) that Israel would not hesitate to use these weapons if it looked like the very survival of Israel as a Jewish state, was at all in doubt.
The new, major war will be a total war on civilians, Ashkenazi* boasted: “In the next war Israel cannot accept any restrictions on warfare in urban areas.

Dennis Gruending @ Pulpit & Politics does a bang up job of outlining the Conservative governments machinations & interference into the internal affairs of Rights and Democracy.
This politically motivated pot-stirring began earlier this year when Conservative government appointees` to the governing board of Rights & Democracy, leveled numerous allegations regarding financial irregularities, and bizarrely ,R & D’s supposed financing of known terrorists groups . To add injury to insult the target of the smear campaign Rémy Beauregard ,the then president of R & D, died of a heart attack shortly after the allegation & personal attacks on his integrity went viral.
In response to this self created mess, the government then promised to launch a forensic audit and release the finding publicly.
But surprise ,surprise when the audit did not support the allegations the audit was shelved . And imagine despite the governments earlier promises of full transparency.Sigh, but then again what can one expect from tiny little ‘men’ with no sense of honor or decency, just an ideological agenda.
The money quote…
There is no credible backing for any of these claims and they can only be understood in the context of the how the Conservative government, elected in 2006, has clearly chosen sides in the Middle East conflict – supporting Israeli no matter what actions it undertakes. There is no subtlety here. Question the policies of the Israeli government and people like Mr. Braun or Conservative cabinet minister Jason Kenney will describe you as an anti-Semite or an enabler to terrorists. These claims were made not only against Rights and Democracy, but also against…

Well one, albeit a some what important one -British PM David Cameron…
‘Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp.’..[@].
You don’t say…my,my will “miracles” never cease .
Imagine no longer can the reality be denied, not even by Conservatives ( Cnd PM Harper* regrettable not being one of em), i.e the reality that is Israel’s 60+ year-old occupation & it’s penchant for collective punishment and denying an entire People the most basic of human rights.
I try not to be cynical, but hell sometimes its just impossible not to be. Does that make me anti-Semitic ?
* But then again is Harper really a Conservative ,or is he just a confused ideologue ? There is a difference after all …being Conservative does not imply stupidity nor an unwillingness to face reality or objective facts. The venerable George Grant (1918-1988) comes to mind, and who can forget the “old man” himself, John Diefenbaker (1895-1979).

A specter haunts the land, the specter of idiocy…
Sometimes I can’t help it but think I live in some weird kind of lala land. The latest outrage of the pro-Israeli crowd just get dumber and dumber,if that’s even possible anymore.
Unfortunately it seems it is, how else can one describe the lunatic attack on Libby Davies ?
What actually did Libby say well nothing really, but hey judge for yourself.
Then juxtapose her words alongside those of David Ben Gurion – the first PM of Israel…
“Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country. Sure God promised it to us, but what does that matter to them? Our God is not theirs. We come from Israel, it’s true, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been antisemitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that?”
~David Ben Gurion, Prime Minister of Israel, to Nahum Goldmann, President of the World Jewish Congress, in 1956
…and what do you get ? Well not much hardly controversial , hardly antisemitic. But then again, perhaps truth has also joined the ranks of the “antisemitic”,perhaps even David Ben Gurion !
Don’t laugh,in the whacked out world of that crowd everything is plausible.

And further more,“we’re helping Arabs go against the US, don’t forget 9/11.”
Was the cry from the Mavi Marmara ,so claimed the IDF.
My,my…how convenient. All the red button issues -sure to piss-off the maximum number of people possible & Americans to-boot – all in one short made for T.V quote. Kind’a like a two-for-one deal.
The IDF has since been forced to retract, admitting that they had in fact doctored the audio clips.
In the hands of Israeli propagandist’s it would seem that the holocaust , just like the ubiquitous charges of antisemitism , has become just another propaganda tool .
So much for the sanctity of the holocaust.
The webs, that lies weave…anti-Semites are every where and no where.

Paul Wells on Canadian Harper Israeli relations…
The Economist chronicled some of the changes in an article last week, calling the two countries “unlikely allies.” It quoted Avigdor Lieberman, Israel’s hardline foreign minister: “It is hard to find a country friendlier to Israel than Canada these days . . . No other country in the world has demonstrated such a full understanding of us.”…
Kind’a like dumb and dumber…
The Economist’s piece lists the elements of the Harper-Israel rapprochement, including his description of Israel’s behaviour during its 2006 war against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon as “measured,” and his government’s decision to halt core funding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, a move the U.S. has not matched.
The magazine even mentioned Harper has cut funding to Kairos, the ecumenical Christian charity, “alleging that the group was anti-Semitic.” This led Alykhan Velshi, the communications director for Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, to exalt on Twitter: “The PM’s principled foreign policy getting noticed!”
Which is odd…
because the last time somebody—the Toronto Star—asserted it was allegations of anti-Semitism that got Kairos its funding cut, his boss Kenney wrote to the Star to insist nothing could be further from the truth. “I did not accuse Kairos of being anti-Semitic,”
Which is even odder…
because 12 days before he told the Star he didn’t call Kairos anti-Semitic, Kenney was in Jerusalem calling Kairos anti-Semitic. “We have implemented a zero tolerance approach to anti-Semitism,” he said. “What does this mean? We have defunded organizations, most recently like Kairos, who are taking a leadership role in the boycott.”

There are few things quite as disingenuous & arrogant as those, who from afar , dismiss & downplay the brutal killing of unarmed civilians involved in, OMG, a humanitarian mission.
The audacity & the intellectual dishonesty involved in the twisting of facts for partisan reasons is just staggering .
Unfortunately this type of thinking is all to common particularly from the pro-Israeli camp.
Nothing Israel does , or has done can be criticized or condemned. Israel is always right, nothing it does is ever beyond the pale.
Not so those who would dare criticize or resist the inhumane actions,in this case the collective punishment of an entire people by an occupying power. Not even the shooting down of the unarmed & innocent. For them, not even violent death is too much.
If there is one piece of ancient wisdom that has never lost even a bit of its validity over the centuries, it is Cornelius Tacitus’ axiom that, “Crime, once exposed, has no refuge but in audacity.”…@
Terry Glavin opines on the Gaza flottila…
That is what this “anti-war” activism is about, and no amount of histrionics, excuse-making, yes-buttery or cunning public-relations work can wash the blood from their hands. Hideously self-aggrandizing revisionism cannot cover up what this spectacularly narcissistic act of moral exhibitionism was intended to conceal from the start.
This is about the continuing isolation and demonization of Israel, undermining the Palestinian Authority, and strengthening Hamas – which now enjoys the support of only 16 per cent of the people of Gaza, its stronghold…@
And on it goes where the insanity will stop, nobody knows…
In the same vein from Lorne Gunter (National Post) we get the ubiquitous “what-if -analysis”. Rather than analyzing the actual facts of the actual event the Gunter’s of the world do their part to obfuscate & deflect attention by substituting an analysis of a fairy tale.
And on it goes & goes…

A war tells a people terrible truths about itself. That is why it is so difficult to listen.
We were determined to avoid an honest look at the first Gaza war. Now, in international waters and having opened fire on an international group of humanitarian aid workers and activists, we are fighting and losing the second. For Israel, in the end, this Second Gaza War could be far more costly and painful than the first….@
As for the fact that elite Israeli soldiers can in one instant be portrayed as invincible and yet the next as hapless victims — that is a paradox that can be resolved only in the minds of Israelis...@
From Andrew Sullivan…
It staggers me to read defenses of what the Israelis have done. They attacked a civilian flotilla in international waters breaking no law. When they met fierce if asymmetric resistance, they opened fire. And we are now being asked to regard the Israelis as the victims…@
Need more be said ?..damn don’t ya all just appreciate writing that gets to the motherf#*@ing point !
