Common sense prevails;Despite Richard Warman’s war on the right to be stupid

…self described  human rights advocate/ law-suit-instigator extraordinaire, Richard Warman (god-bless his heart) has  unleashed his paternalistic self-righteousness,yet again .

His target this time ,  anonymous commentators,specifically those that comment  on web sites that he has a particular “fondness” for.

In a nut shell Warman wants the state to pass a law,which would  force website owners/administrators (without first having to show cause) to disclose the names and IP addresses of those who would dare say bad/rude things about others,in particular himself.

Remember we are talking  about comments here,not actions.  Comments made  during on-line conversations & debates. Usually on personal blogs & websites discussing political & social issues,subjects that can very easily go from passionate (but respectable) debate to juvenile name calling. Jeez…welcome to life…@

Anyway as the title implies Richard Warman has lost yet another “case”…

The targets of  his latest suit, Connie &  Mark Fournier of Free Dominion -a one stop talk shop for all your bigotry needs,will not have to disclose the ISP’s & e-mail addresses of  the eight anonymous commentators who posted comments that Warman did not like.

The idea that Warman , a lawyer who should know better,would even launch such a suit defies common sense. On top of it all, Richard Warman’s actions have given ‘Free Domain’ much more publicity than they deserve,or that the site would have ever gotten otherwise.

Perhaps Mr Warman over looked the adage…’any publicity good or bad is better than none’ ?  Then again maybe that’s the point publicity,albeit for himself ?

That said ,we all know which side is having the last laugh now yet again…

Way-to-go Richard for helping to boost   ‘Free Dominion’s’ credibility & visibility. Just like you  did for Marc Lemire &  ‘Freedomsite.org’ ,in-fact just 7 short months ago.

Again, the person(s) claiming injury do not even have to first show cause,i.e how their life/well being  was/is being negatively  impacted by the comment(s) …

In a case with implications for online privacy and free expression, a panel of Ottawa judges is considering whether websites named in libel actions should be required to identify people who post anonymous defamatory comments.

Their decision could chill whistleblowers and others who use pseudonyms to post controversial comments, say civil libertarians…read @

Hummm, give the state even more power to monitor & regulate the personal behaviors of  individuals ? Sounds like the “perfect way” to protect freedom of speech/expression.

On second thoughts, what’s the “big deal’… the state already regulates what people can wear.

Indeed in some parts of Canada (Quebec) ,as in Iran and Saudi Arabia ,the  clothing police are busily ensuring that persons are ‘properly’ attired. Although in Canada rather than being a religious issue, it’s  one  of immigrants, usually of the brown skin variety.

In this particular case a handful of  niqab-wearing Muslim woman (approx 25 in Quebec where this law was dreamed up and enacted Mar 24/2010 ,that said 4/5 of Cnd’s also support the Quebec’s banning of the niqab ), who’s mere presence some how represents a threat to Quebec & Canadian culture,go figure ?

Three days later, two Immigration Department officials turned up at a West Island centre that offers the free French classes and told an Indian immigrant that she would have to follow the rules or leave her class.

Unwilling to remove the Islamic face veil, the distraught 25-year-old woman left the centre in tears.

“She was one of the best students, she wants to learn French, she participated in class and worked with men,” said Joanie Lavoie, co-ordinator of the Centre d’intégration multiservices de l’Ouest de l’Île, which offers French courses to help immigrants integrate into Quebec society.

The student is the second niqab-wearing Muslim woman to be forced out of her French class after refusing to remove her face veil ….read @

Big daddy has spoken yet again, smokers in Vancouver are banned from parks,beaches and playgrounds. Damn nothings quite as irritating as a pompous-self righteous-idiotic-busy-body-do-gooder ,never mind a crowd of em.

On Thin-skinned Chihuahua’s and Cowards

Some Dawg’s have thin-skin.

While others are cowards,i.e blogger Adrian Raphael Alexander MacNair an obnoxious  whiner and self-styled  “defender” of all that is free,as in free speech.

Givin the dog a bone…

Just one thing when push comes to shove MacNair ,being the  keyboarding “freedom fighter” that he strives to be,scurries for cover deleting the offending words (a-person-who-admits-he-supports-the-taliban),while lamenting the  lose of  his once “wonderful anonymity“. From behind which he  was able to  launch personality attacks,or just outright lie, without fear of reprisal or having to take personal responsibility for.

Now that’s a coward,and an unambiguous one at that.

Scary,scary  hey MacNair ,having to stand up for one’s self in the full glare of the noon-day sun ,and nothing or nobody to hide behind.

When the chips are down dial, 911-he-called-me-a-bad-name or 911-whine. Is it just me or does  this seem to be a common trait with to many Canadian blogger’s,what ever their politics.

Are these people determined to see the government regulate what people can say or not say, on a fucking blog ?

I understand you meant well and were motivated by good intentions,I believe that it’s usually best to give people the benefit of the doubt, during your much publicized  internet hunt for small-minded-fearful-get-your-intolerance-on-bigots.

That said I would like to draw your attention to a truism ,also called common sense, “the road to hell is often paved with good intentions”. You do realize that your very actions  ensured that these bigots received more publicity than they could have ever  dared hope for.

No need for me to link or name names,you made sure everyone knows whose being talking about.

Indeed  your love of drama, & section 13(1) are the best thing that could have ever happened to these clowns. Their names and web-sites are plastered everywhere,and I mean everywhere,indeed the CHR Tribunal has ruled in their favor,gee how ironic hey Mr Warman.

This said I gotta ask, now that the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has ruled that section13(1) of the Human Rights Act violates the right to freedom of expression,what are going to do for an encore ?

What ever that might be, next time round  do your homework, definitly plan a different strategy.

Perhaps you and Bernie Farber should get together,hell your both on the same page. And damn it between the two of ya ,I am sure you’ll be able to find a way to protect all us “easily-led-astray-peons” from the big bad bogey-man,dare he utter unpopular or controversial opinion.

Excuse me… Since when did being “left/progressive” mean one must  or is predisposed to supporting censorship  or government regulation of freedom of expression ?

But then again loud-in-your-face political partisans such as Blazing Cat Fur just can’t be bothered with the facts,nor in understanding the actual positions  of their opponents. Their ideas of what it means to be “left/progressive ” are built on nothing other than a series of tired & threadbare canards,easily disproved ones at that.

No big surprise I suppose,after all those predisposed to labeling others with simplistic labels such as “right”,”left” etc, see most things in terms of absolutes.

One more “tool”,and all will be “well“…

Montreal Police want a law passed that would allow them to arrest/fine any one who dares to mouth back or god forbid,calls them “pigs” or even worse “doughnut- eaters”.Ouch,now there’s a low blow.

Montreal police have asked the city to empower local officers to crack down on insult-hurling citizens – likely with a blow to their pocketbooks.

Of course it will be up to the individual police officer to decide when and if they are being “insulted”.Yep that will work,it will definitly “free up” the over loaded courts.

What’s next laws against gestures ? What if I snort ,say in the manner of a pig ? What about doughnuts,can I offer a police officer a doughnut ? After all cops like doughnuts,don’t they ?

Damn it you will “respect” me,even if undeserved ,because damn it  I’m the “man”…what’s that you dissing me ? Don’t make me  pull my tazer …

Sid Ryan,Academics,Freedom of Speech,Hypocricy & Israel

Watching  Terry Glavin , Andrew Potter and Warren Kinsella brandishing the blunt instrument of anti-semitism is truly entertaining to witness.

Their phony self righteous indignation and ham fisted ridiculing of Sid Ryan is akin to the, mean spirited he said she said gossip,one  normally associates with the right-wing  radio  talk show circus.

Having followed and read many interesting articles & books by all three of these guys,I for one find their views on this “issue” perplexing & simplistic. Indeed totally out of character with what I have come to expect & appreciate in their books & writings.This particularly applies to Terry Glavin who’s many books I have not only enjoyed,but found value in.

For sure some of what Sid Ryan had to say was not only  ill conceived , but dumb,in fact many on the “left” have spoken out against Sid Ryan’s absurd statement,including this blogger.

But that said he sure as hell should not be labeled anti-semitic ,nor should he have to fear losing his job due to the pressure from the self righteous peanut gallery.Particular for something as trivial,as thinking out loud.

Where is the outrage over the brutal killings,of hundreds upon hundreds of  Palestinian civilians 1/3 of whom were children, by Israel ?… i.e,the events that  led  Sid Ryan to express outrage against Israel’s actions,in the form of a CUPE resolution(words).

Anyway one cuts it,Sid Ryan’s call for a “boycott of Israeli academic’s”  which was to be included in a CUPE resolution ,was not motivated by intolerance or “anti-semitism”.Rather it was more a lapse in judgment,to much tongue wagging and not enough thinking.

Where is the outrage and indignation from Terry Glavin,Andrew Potter or the academic “community” in general in response to  Israeli actions,i.e the banning of  authors & academics and by extension freedom of expression.For example  Norman Finkelstein…

Norman Finkelstein, the controversial Jewish American academic and fierce critic of Israel, has been deported from the country and banned from the Jewish state for 10 years, it emerged yesterday.(May 25/2008)

Just one of many academics &  scholars,who are banned & harassed in Israel .

What of the Israeli actions that  prevent Palestinian students,writers and academics from attending  Universities outside of the occupied territories ? Or of fulfilling scholarship possibilities etc etc ?

Where is the outrage over Israeli actions,i.e the bombing of  Palestinian and U.N,schools and universities ?

Their silence on these real issues, as compared to their shrillness on faux issues,is not only deafening but casts  a long shadow of doubt on their ideas of intellectual  fairness & honesty.

Everyone just keeps “picking” on lil,ol Israel/Jews

Rather than sympathizing with Israeli’s/Jews there is widespread sympathy for Palestinians, how can this be ?

National Jewish organizations sounded alarm bells this week about what they consider hateful or discriminatory action carried out in Canada by those sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.[@]

Palestinians are “terrorist” after all ? Sure Israeli may have killed  a thousand+ mostly innocent civilians over the past 2 weeks. But they had no choice,as the “Palestinians/death cultists/terrorists” are bent on driving Israeli’s/Jews into the sea.

How dare people get angry and emotional,how dare they express their outrage ? Indeed there were two or three signs,in a sea of thousands,stating how Jews should be killed. No Israeli/Jew would ever express,such  evil thoughts. That said before anyone gets their panties in a bunch I am not excusing such behavior.

The inhumanity of it all,next thing ya know Jews will be rounded up &  imprisoned… “just for being Jewish“.  Will  Israeli’s & Jews ever be left in peace ? Particularly when Israeli’s & Jews just want to live in peace,hold hands ,and sing Kum By Ya ?

The fact that they are on occupied land,well that’s besides the point ? And this 40+ year reality,bizarrely,has no bearing on the situation ?

Red alert,red alert calling the “thought police” emotions have been expressed,words have been spoken,bad emotions & words at that.

Gee how “discriminatory & hateful” ,oop’s almost forget  “anti-Semitic”,of me.

Green Humble Pie

Seems the Greens had it wrong.

TV Ontario confirmed today that the infamous audio recording,of Elizabeth May calling Canadian voters “stupid”,was genuine and had not been  tampered with.

Ouch…

After digesting a little humble pie the Greens then went on to issue a public apology to Buck Dog for  earlier threats,of the litigious kind backed up by a cheap lie.In that TVO was also considering action against Buckdog.
