Canadians can definitly count on the Liberals

They talk a good line, they know how to play the game, they are definitly more sophisticated than the Conservatives at playing the game but when it comes to actually doing ….

Well that’s where reality and Liberal speak go their separate ways.

A couple of very recent & prominent examples come to mind.

First the budget and the subsequent Liberal word games …

In particular the Liberal’s decision to support the  NDP  motion of  March 10 which called on the Conservative government to address and correct the  inequities of Canada’s  “employment” insurance system.

Good on the Liberals ,right ? Naww not really,Liberal support for the motion was pure theater as opposition motions are not binding on the government.

But the proof is in the pudding as the saying goes.

Rewind one week earlier when the Libs were in a position ,where together with the NDP and BLOC,they could have called the government on E.I, they did not. Instead they chose to support the Conservative government’s budget rather than stand up for working people.

This disconnect between words and reality is just so typical of the Liberals, and liberalism in general.

Secondly the U.N Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples….

This is a prime example  that illustrates the more sophisticated strategy & tactics  of the Liberals,as opposed to the Conservatives . Although  both Party’s seemingly have opposing positions on this issue, and indigenous issues in general,in reality there is little if any difference.

While the Conservatives just came straight out and rejected the declaration .The Liberals well they understand the effectiveness of a good PR & spin campaign.

On one hand they publicly state  that indeed Indigenous peoples do have rights(gee how generous of them) but then turn around and slip a clause into the declaration that mutes the whole exercise.Despite all the nice Liberal talk about equality and the rights of  indigenous peoples the end result is exactly the same as the Conservatives.Indigenous rights are secondary to and only apply if they do not conflict with existing Canadian law.Hence the status-quo is assured.

So when the next election cycle comes around and the Liberals go on about how the Conservatives screwed over working Canadians,or how they have no respect for indigenous people etc… remember  the tale of the kettle  & the pot.

All said, the Conservatives are just as cynical at playing the game, but at least one knows where they stand.
